Dora Elizabeth Peters' Obituary
DORA ELIZABETH PETERS CONNER
“THE HAT LADY”
JULY 13, 1943 – APRIL 13, 2024
Dora Elizabeth was born in Monterrey, Mexico on July 13, 1943. Her parents’ names were Aurora Ruiz Gin and Joe Gin. Dora Elizabeth became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on October 30, 1957. She lived much of her life in Texas, most recently in Pearland.
Dora Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and her two husbands, Howard Earl “Pete” Peters and Thomas Joe Conner. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lynn Coleman; three grandchildren, Zachary Aaron Mayorga, Rachel Jade Earnest and Jacob Earl Mayorga; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia Baulch, Daniel Earnest, Lorelai Mayorga and Penelope Carruth.
One of the loves of her life was her big gray cat, Baby. Dora Elizabeth had raised him from a tiny kitten she rescued from the field behind an employer’s house. Baby died two years ago and was greatly missed.
Dora Elizabeth worked in a variety of occupations: office/secretarial, home health care provider, helping with the family business and, most meaningful to her, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Dora Elizabeth joined Epiphany Lutheran Church in 2011, where she was known to her church family as Elizabeth, or “The Hat Lady.” Every Sunday she was easy to spot in a pew, wearing one of her numerous hats.
Elizabeth was active in her church community, serving for years as hostess to the New Members Class. She was a faithful member of the Quilters Ministry, piecing together quilts for national and international missions. One Sunday she fulfilled a lifelong dream and served as the acolyte for the morning worship service.
Elizabeth possessed an outgoing personality which made it easy for her to strike up a conversation with anyone nearby. She had a knack for introducing Epiphany newcomers to the many long-time members she knew. In this way she was integral in helping church members feel more inter-connected. It seems she was a living example of the quilts she helped put together.
Elizabeth loved her Savior Jesus. As she neared the end of her life, she rested in his promise that he was preparing a place for her where she would be with him forever. Her brothers and sisters in Christ look forward to seeing her again someday.
