Mr. Donald Lee Blake's Obituary
Donald Lee Blake, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Monday, October 15th, 2007 at Houston Hospice. He was born September 29, 1931 in Kimberly, West Virginia on a farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While working at NASA from 1964-1974, he was instrumental in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo projects as a computer programmer and electronics communications engineer. He received recognition for his work there from Lyndon B. Johnson. He traveled the world as a geophysical engineer for various geo-seismic companies. In December of 2006, he retired to his dream life of farming in Colmesneil, TX with his wife of 44 years Shirley Blake. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, learning, and playing with his dog. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert William Blake and Phoebe Ocelia Tuck Blake, and sister, Glenna Mae Blake. He is survived by his wife Shirley Blake; sons, Steve Blake and Rob Blake, daughter, Cindi Lawton, along with their spouses; grandchildren, Heather Williams and Jonathan Blake; brothers, Earl Blake and Robert D. Blake, and sister, Clydice Williams. He will also be missed by his beloved dog, Babe. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17th from 5pm-8pm at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, TX. Graveside Services will also be held at South Park on Thursday, October 18th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memoriam donations be made to Houston Hospice; 1905 Holcombe Blvd.; Houston, TX 77030-4123.
