Domingo L. Vlliamiel's Obituary
On the early morning of July 4, 2020, our beloved Domingo L. Villamiel left us quietly and peacefully at the age of 85, and moved towards a glorious new life everlasting. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 41 years, Lucy. By his daughter Nanette, son-in-law, Gilbert, and grandsons, Gabriel Jaxon, and Ezekiel Raphael. As well as by numerous relatives from near and far, and by many beloved friends whose lives he had touched.
Doming, as he was fondly known, was born on May 12, 1935, in a tiny seaside town of Quezon Province, Philippines. He was the third of four children to Eusebio and Irene, and was blessed to have gained another mother in Fortunata, as well as 3 additional siblings. He earned his mechanical engineering degree before migrating to the United States in 1974. He briefly worked in New Jersey, and eventually made Pearland, TX his home with his wife and daughter.
Doming was not a man of many words, but underneath his calm and reserved nature was a man with an unwavering faith in God, love for life, his family, and the great outdoors. He worshipped at St. Helen’s Catholic Church for 35 years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as an usher for over 20 years, and was a founding member of Kislap ng Sta. Elena, a ministry of Filipino parishioners at St. Helen’s.
He was happiest working on his property tending the many fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and flowering trees and bushes. He took great joy in sharing his fruits of labor when friends and family would come to his home to harvest.
Doming loved to travel and was blessed to have gone on pilgrimages throughout Eastern and Western Europe, as well as the Holy Land. He was also fortunate to have visited numerous states throughout the US, set sail on a few cruises in the Caribbean, as well as visit the Philippines, his home country, all with his beloved travel companion, Lucy, by his side.
His favorite hobby was bowling, which he liked to play every Friday with his buddies, and even won a few team tournaments. He could be found exercising at the local YMCA a few days a week, as well as attending various activities and field trips with the Knapp Center, a senior recreational facility for senior adults in Pearland. He still read the Sunday paper from front to end and played Sudoku in his spare time to “exercise his brain.”
In his later years, the joy of his life was his two young grandchildren, Jax and EZ. He spent many happy moments attending Jax’s many school events, baseball games, and wrestling tournament. At every opportunity, baby EZ could be found in his Lolo Ming’s arms. He will certainly be missed by many.
The Villamiel and Medrano families will be receiving friends and family on Monday, July 13, 2020 for a visitation starting at 10:00 am at St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am for anyone that would like to join the family. Interment will follow services at SouthPark Cemetery.
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
