Mrs Dollie Ann Philpott's Obituary
Dollie Ann Philpott Longtime South Belt resident, Dollie Ann Philpott, died on October 13, 2008 after a long battle against cancer. She was an only child born April 24, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Ralph and Helen Karraker. She was preceded in death by her parents. Dollie moved to Texas when she was 13 years old. She played in the band at Galena Park High School where she graduated in 1960. She attended Sam Houston State University where she met her husband, Richard Philpott, and was married in 1962. They bought their first house in Kirkwood in 1968 where they raised their two children and joined Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Dollie worked as a substitute teacher for the Pasadena School District, mainly at Meador Elementary, for nearly 20 years. She retired when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990. She did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society to educate others who were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She was an active member of the breast cancer support group at The Rose. Dollie and Richard enjoyed their last three years together by buying a house in Bella Vita, where they enjoyed the social activities and walking around the lake. Dollie's hobbies included crocheting, knitting and needlework. She enjoyed making things for her children and two grandchildren. She also enjoyed shopping, traveling and visiting with her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Richard Philpott; her daughter Tresa De La Cruz and son-in-law Jerome of Midland, TX; and her son Ronald Philpott and daughter-in-law Angela, South Belt residents. She also leaves two grandchildren, Sierra Ann and Samuel Jerome De La Cruz.
