Delma Lois Barr's Obituary
Delma Lois (Davis) Barr was a Beautiful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met. She was called to Heaven on May 3, 2022 at the age of 85.
She was born to Ola Dee and Jesse W. Davis on May 1, 1937 in Nogalus Prairie, Tx. She spent her early years alongside her five siblings working hard to maintain the family farm and learning about faith from their parents’ whose sweet voices were heard weekly singing Gospel music on the local radio station.
Delma worked hard on the farm and in school. Typical of family farms, she had to work the harvest first and then she got to go to school. Delma had strong determination and succeeded at both as she graduated from Apple Springs High School in 1955. This resolve and passion for education were values she lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren.
After graduation, she moved to Houston, Tx where she met her beloved husband of 63 years, Hardie Ray Barr. They were married on June 26, 1959 and together they had 3 children: Ray, Cyndi and Kathy and 4 grandchildren: Kayla, Austin, Krista and Hannah.
Delma Lois was a mother that would go to great lengths for her children and grandchildren. She cherished quality time spent with family and looked forward to holidays as opportunities to put on her “Sunday Best” and celebrate with loved ones. Her favorite Holiday was Christmas. Delma had a passion for decorating her home year-round, but especially at Christmas. She also loved spending time with family baking homemade chocolate chip cookies and other treats.
Delma loved fresh flowers. Her favorites were roses and she also loved birds and enjoyed watching birds and collecting bird statues.
To know Delma was to love her in all her inner and outer beauty. Each of the Fruits of the Spirit-Love, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control shone brightly through her life and the legacy she has left for others.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Ola Dee and Jesse W. Davis and her siblings: Edward, Gertie, Hattie, Dorothy and Jesse Ray.
She is survived by her husband, Hardie Ray Barr, her son Hardie Ray Barr, Jr., and his family Vinciane Doutrelepont and sons Roman and Tunay, her daughter Cynthia Ann and husband Daryl Wayne Orsak, children Kayla Nicole and Krista Michelle and her daughter Katherine Dee and her husband Douglas Austin Melis, children Douglas Austin, Jr. and Hannah Rae, and a host of other family members including brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
