Mr. David Dan Day's Obituary
Dan D. Day was born David Dan Day on August 19, 1942 in Texarkana, Arkansas to David Estin Day and Lola Pauline Abel Day. He passed away surrounded by family at his home in Manvel, Texas on July 16, 2020 at the age of 77.
Dan grew up in the Museum District of Houston, Texas at 5218 La Branch where he attended McGregor Elementary, Johnston Junior High, and San Jacinto High School in Houston. Dan's first job was riding his bicycle delivering newspapers door to door. He then went to work at age 16 for Shine's Conoco Station on South Main Street in Houston where he worked all through high school. Dan joined the U.S. Navy after graduation from San Jacinto High School. When he returned to Houston Dan went to work for Houston Air Service for a short time. Dan soon went to work for Hobbs Trailers where he started his career in the trucking business. In 1969 he started his long career with Stewart & Stevenson in Houston.
Dan retired in 2008 after forty years of service at Stewart & Stevenson. After retirement, Dan spent time at the country place in Sublime, Lavaca County, Texas. He eventually worked part time at the K-5 Ranch in Lavaca County, Texas. Dan's hobbies included hunting, barbecuing, and knife collecting. Dan carried pocket knives in his pockets and gave a pocket knife to everyone he met.
He enjoyed his RV travels most of all, Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico were his favorite destinations. The family spent time in the mountains of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico every summer enjoying the cool mountain breezes for the past forty years.
Dan D. Day was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Jane Day van Morkhoven.
Dan D. Day is survived by his wife, Dianne Kliesing Day, son, Doug Day, son, Darin Day and wife, Brooke Day and children, Alyssa, Kaley, and Hadley, daughter, Melissa Liles-Day Farnham and husband, Robert Farnham and their sons, Hunter and Chase, daughter, Robin Jane Day and sons, Michael and Nicholas, and their father, Edward Ross. He is also survived by his niece, Kathryn Jost of Phoenix, Arizona and her daughter, Hannah Jones of California. Dan is survived by his nephew, Weston Jost and wife, Irina, and children Alexandra, Sam, and Nicholas of St. Petersburg, Russia. He is also survived by his childhood friend, Jeff Eby.
A memorial service to honor Dan Day will be held on July 31, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at South Park Funeral Home located at 1310 N. Main Street in Pearland, Texas.
