Mr. Dana Marshall's Obituary
Dana Lee Marshall, On May 6, 1955, Dana Lee Marshall was born to Frank Jr. and Effie Marshall in Houston, TX. He was the 2nd of 4 siblings. “Dana-Boy” was a very productive youth. If he wasn’t busy making kites and flying them for hours with his brother Franklyn, he was working at the Neighborhood store while attending Middle School. Dana was a quick learner, picking up sewing while watching his Mom, a seamstress. He did so while attending Worthing Sr. High School, where he graduated. Enjoying this new found talent, Dana designed a white three piece suit, a pair of red slacks and other items. As Netta put it, “He was GQ before there was a GQ”. Dana worked as a Master Welder, a Crane Operator and also drove Cement Trucks. At the Weber-Balke Foundation Co. he worked for 20yrs and while working at A.H. Beck Foundation Co., Dana became ill and ended his employment. Dana was a protector, handyman, sweetest man ever, caring, compassionate, considerate and an all around special person. He was also known for his Family Famous Smoked Bar-B-Q Ribs (Lee’s favorite).
Dana met the love of his life, Viola “Lee” Riles and they were married. He was very attentive to Lee, being very responsible, taking great care and having genuine concern for his wife. The couple shared wonderful memories together. They enjoyed sitting under a tree in the Park, just talking; walking along the beach; listening to music and dancing together....just having fun. And they did so much more. He would even attend special Christian Meetings with Lee. Dana also began studying and learning about the true God, Jehovah. And enjoyed his lessons. Dana stated that if asked, he would tell his family and friends, “Take time to learn about Jehovah”. He held this truth until he expired on February 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by his loving Mother, Mrs. Effie Marshall and mother inlaw, Mrs. Bertha Abram.
Dana leaves to cherish his love and memory: his wife - Viola Marshall; a daughter - Cristyl Marshall ; a grandson - Derrick “C” Thomas; 3 siblings - Franklyn Marshall (Clara), Wannetta Bryant (Perry) and Russell Marshall; his father - Frank Marshall Jr. and an aunt - Bettye Marshall.
“Bum-Bum” was a very attentive and fun loving father and grandfather to his extended family whom he will also leave to cherish his memory: Jeanette ‘JJ”1 granddaughter - Tamara Thigpen (Carl), who has been with them from beginning to end, even standing up for Dana & Lee at their wedding; a grandson - Marcus Smith; 6 great-grandchildren - LaTavia, Orion, Car’Tavian, Mykel, Da’Carrion, Ja’Carius and a host of nieces, nephews, numerous relatives, neighbors, friends and acquaintances whom will miss Dana greatly.
Our family would like to extend a special thanks to Heather, Carlos, Peggy, Janice and Mae from The Providence Hospice team.
