When Belinda was a few months old, we were in Momo's room and Belinda was sitting in one of those orange swivel rocking chairs. We were folding laundry, "Love me Do" came on the radio, Momo started singing and dancing around. She would take the chair and move it around to "dance" with Belinda. Belinda laughed and laughed.
When my brother was getting married, I didn't have anything nice to wear to his wedding. I asked Momo if I could go through her closet and borrow something, she had told me yes. When I got to the house, no one was home, there was a note on the kitchen table that read: "Mija, my clothes are made for an old woman, you need something new for the wedding." She had left me one of her credit cards. I bought a beautiful dress and wore it until it pretty much fell apart.
A couple of months ago, I had had a really bad day at work, on my way home, I stopped by Freddie's work, Pearland Lumber, I saw Popo's truck in the parking lot and parked next to it. Momo was sitting inside. I went to talk to her and see how she was doing. She asked how I was, I told her it had been a trying day and she gave me a hug. At that moment, I started getting teary. As I pulled away, I told her, "I didn't realize how much of a mommy hug I needed." She pulled me back and hugged me harder.
She was an amazing woman who accepted me as one of her own. At the end of the day, I loved her and I know she loved me too.
