Pastor Clifton Slayton's Obituary
“In Loving Memory”
What mere words can describe this Man of God, humble, loving, wise? Overseer Slayton is a man that loves - not because God is in his heart but because he is in the heart of God. His thoughts, actions and messages to many was to love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength and second was like it to love your neighbor as you love yourself. (Mark 11:30)
Overseer Clifton Slayton, a beloved husband, father, chaplain and Pastor, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He was surrounded by his loving wife and son.
Clifton Slayton was born March 6, 1932 to the late Clifton Slayton Sr. and Claire Slayton-Lee in Houston, Texas He and his family was raised in Houston’s Forth Ward, where he graduated from Booker T. Washington. He served in United States Army in the early 1950’s and was honorable discharged.
He began his ministry at Greater Outreach Baptist Church serving as a minister and teacher, where he met his loving wife Thelma Lawrence; the two were united in matrimony on May 15, 1982. They were called to pastor their first church, Clear Run Baptist Church in Pineville, LA for two years. They returned home to Houston, and founded Victory Outreach Church on Telephone Road. While attending an Azusa Conference the Holy Spirit spoke Isaiah 58:12 to his heart and the name of the church changed to The Repairers’ Church Family Worship Center.
Overseer served God through interceding in prayer and love toward all those that entered into his life. His style of preaching was straight from the King’s James version of the bible as taught to him at the College of Biblical Studies. He served as Chaplain for the Kingdom Council of Interdependent Christian Churches and Ministries and was later appointed Overseer by Bishop David M. Copeland in June 2007, where he is affectionately known as Father of Intercession.
His ministry includes the Kings’ Kids Academy and Covenant Repairers’ Community Development Center where his leadership and mission was to nurture the total development of the family especially the children. The kids fondly called him ‘Paw Paw’ and were always looking for treats of candy. His example of a Godly marriage touched many couples within the ministry and around the world. He knew that if marriages could be bonded in Christ then both the family and church would prosper.
Overseer Clifton Slayton continued his calling by serving as Third Vice President in Ministry in Action, a liaison between the community and the Police Department. He is the founder of Knights of the Kingdom, a resource for men seeking Godly wisdom. He was a member of RAPHA as a Christian Counselor, American Association of Christian Counselors, Education and Resource Network and the Mayor’s Anti-Gang Task Force under the Chief of Police, Clarence Bradford.
It would be an understatement to say that Overseer Slayton will be greatly missed; we will hold him in our hearts and remember the Word of God that he taught us.
He will forever be remembered by his wife of 33 years Thelma, his son G. Keith Slayton and daughter-in-law Felicia, his daughter Stacie Chandler-Walcott and son-in-law Larry, his grand-daughters Galen K. Harris and Kaysie Slayton, also his siblings LaKatherine Callegari, Betty Young and Pamela Jones, a host of nieces, nephews and family, his congregation at The Repairers’ Church Family Worship Center, the employees and families of the King’s Kids Academy, Kingdom Council of Interdependent Christian Churches and Ministries and many friends throughout the world.
