Lexie Lumiere
I had been looking for Mrs. Patterson for several years to say thank you for teaching and living with a Standard of Excellence and the impact her love of music had on my life. I grew up in the HISD school district since we moved to Houston when I was 10, and due to my aunt being held up at gunpoint at our apartment. My parents decided to move & bought a house in a new area the summer before my Junior year. I kept singing through the trauma and would maintain my love of music for a lifetime and move to NYC, never once visiting Carnegie Hall while living there. Moved back to Texas when my Grandmother got cancer, and ended up in a head on collision with a DUI driver in 2015 that totaled 3 cars including his own, and I spend 6 months in and out of rehabilitation for my injuries. I would return to art and singing, becoming a Citizen Artist for the United States Department of Arts and Culture, and Art In Embassies Artist for the United States Department of State. I wanted to invite Ms. Patterson to see me/us perform at Carnegie Hall in NYC, February 25, 2024 but could not find her. Until this morning when I found out Claire Elaine North Patterson, a dedicated choir teacher who taught in Houston ISD for over thirty years, passed away on August 17, 2024, at age 92 the same year we performed at Carnegie Hall. While widely celebrated as a beloved choir director, she was a long-time educator in the area. She taught choir in Houston ISD (HISD) for over 30 years and served as a church organist for over 50 years. I missed her Celebration of Life, but I will never forget her legacy. What the press said about our Carnegie performance: "Kari Jobe, alongside her husband Cody Carnes, performed an acclaimed, sold-out worship concert at Carnegie Hall on February 25, 2024. The event featured the True North Orchestra and a 200-voice choir, highlighting a special 20th-anniversary performance of "Revelation Song" (because it was 20 years from the day Kari had written the song - who is also a Texan btw.) The night was described as a powerful, spirit-led, and intimate experience in the historic venue." All thanks to great music teachers like Mrs. Patterson. Whoopi Goldberg gave me a standing ovation at The View with mom, Lana and Bernice the next day in front of her audience for performing at our Nation's leading venue which she said is an honor. I am on the left, 2nd row from the top, 6th person in. If you enlarge the image I have the cut out in the dress on my shoulder. The girl to my hair has long light brown hair. I don't think this video of performing 'The Blessing' which was the song that pushed Kari to perform in NYC, does the venue justice, (no one is supposed to record in there btw.) Due to the wood being hand carved by Carnegie, the sound moves through the body. Kari and all of us cried during rehearsals. It was really powerful. Everyone was standing, we brought a touch of God and Christ to NYC. Thank you Mrs. Patterson. - Love, your student Lexie Peveto (aka Lex Lumiere linktr.ee/lexlumiere) I hope you are enjoying the VIP room and box seats in Heaven's greatest orchestra.
