Mr. Charles Tilbury's Obituary
Charles (Charlie) O Tilbury, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Charlie was a lifelong resident of Houston, moving his young family to Pearland in 1965. He was a graduate of the University of Houston, a member of MENSA and had a highly satisfying career as a certified structural engineer. He worked for over 30 years as a project engineer, project and department manager at the Houston refining operations on Lawndale for Sinclair, then Arco. After retirement in 1985, Charlie embarked on a second career as an engineer and project manager for GDS Engineers. Although his career as an engineer was long and successful, Charlie's real passion was working with his hands building things - pieces of furniture, additions to his home and innumerable projects and assignments for the Alvin Junior College Theatrical Department and other parties who benefitted from his talent and commitment to craftsmanship. Charlie is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 60 years Margret (Betty). Also, his three sons and daughter and their families: Chuck and Peggy Tilbury of Austin, TX and their children David (wife Robin) and Denise (husband Sergio), Dave and Hannah Tilbury of Katy, TX and their children Tiffany (husband Tony) and David; Joe and Julie Tilbury of Pearland, TX and their son Eli; Liz and Rick Johnston of Crocket, TX and their son Larry (wife Kelly). Charlie was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Elizabeth. He was also the proud great grandparent of 3 great grand sons and 3 great grand daughters as well as a host of extended family, loving friends, neighbors, colleagues and acquaintances. Funeral arrangements have been made with SouthPark Funeral Home in Pearland, TX at 1310 North Main Street with the viewing and visitation scheduled for Thursday evening, March 14th from 4:00pm till 8:00pm. Memorial services with interment will follow on Friday, March 15th at 3:00pm at the South Park Cemetery. The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
