Charles James Howard's Obituary
Charles James Howard, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully the morning of January 13, 2021 at the age of 85 to be with the Lord. Charles was born on February 7, 1935 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Charles William and Opal Howard and relocated to Pasadena, Texas during high school where he graduated with a basketball scholarship. Charles was a United States Army Veteran, having honorably served in Germany. He married his sweetheart Florence in 1960 and moved to Pearland in 1967 to raise their two daughters. Charles and Florence enjoyed the rural setting in Pearland and their hobbies included bowling, vegetable gardening, raising parakeets and exotic chicken breeds. Charles also enjoyed playing dominos, following the Astros and Rockets and spending time outdoors in the late afternoons.
Charles and Florence were married for over 58 years and he was a devoted caregiver, especially during times when she was ill. He has left a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and a servant’s heart. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Florence and is survived by sister, Donna Dahse and brother, Douglas Howard. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Lizabeth Gillis and her husband, Lee; daughter, Charlotte Selvera and her husband, Richard; and grandsons, Hayden and Tyler Selvera. A private family graveside service will be held at South Park Cemetery on Thursday, January 21, 2021.
