Catharine Conger Fuller Walker's Obituary
Catharine (“Kitty”) Conger Fuller Walker
Catharine “Kitty” Conger Fuller Walker of Dallas, 99, joyfully entered heaven on March 19, 2024. She was born in St. Paul, MN, on November 28, 1924, to the late Frank Wingfield Fuller and Mildred Emmons Conger Fuller. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas Slater Walker; sister Barbara Preston Fuller; granddaughter Patricia Elizabeth Walker;
and sister-in-law Mary Anna Walker Sutherland and her husband C.B. Sutherland, Jr. She is survived by her two children, son Tom and Geri Walker and their children Steve Walker, Matthew Walker, and Mary Kate Walker Riggs and husband, Dakota; and daughter Nancy (Walker) and Marty Clayton and their children, David and wife, Soyoung Clayton, William and wife, Jenna Clayton, Catharine Clayton, and John Clayton; and three great-grandchildren, Preston and Harrison Clayton and Minyoung Clayton. She is also survived by a niece, a great nephew, and multiple “Minnesota cousins.”
She graduated from Summit School in St. Paul, spent a summer as a “Rosie the Riveter” helping support the war effort, and attended Carleton College for one year before moving to Dallas with her family during World War II. She graduated from SMU where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, did graduate work at the University of Minnesota, and after returning to Dallas, met her beloved husband, Tom. She enjoyed lifelong friendships made in the Allman (Sunday School) Class at First Presbyterian Church and when later they became charter members of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, she joined the choir which brought her great joy for many years. She also enjoyed genealogical research, membership in the Rebel Sailing Fleet on White Rock Lake and being an AFS exchange student “mom” and committee member. She did volunteer work through the Kappa alum club, held memberships in book review clubs, an investment club, and others. Before marrying, she had followed her father’s love of flying and soloed in a Piper Cub. Years later, for her 90th birthday, she took her first ride in a helicopter over North Dallas.
She particularly cherished the many friendships she and Tom made through their long association with the Trustees of the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation (and the travel it afforded). In her later years, she made and sustained many new friendships as a resident of the Edgemere Retirement Community in Dallas. Nothing, though, gave her as much joy as family and travel and, especially, travel to visit family – around the U.S., in Central America, and in Europe. Among the many, many things about her the family will miss, her sharp wit, gift of wordplay and impeccable grammar always kept them on their toes.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas, 75219. Memorial gifts may be made to the choir of Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Her family especially wishes to thank the extraordinary caregivers who became extended members of our family by sustaining her and all of us in the last years of her life – Roxanne Guyton, Annie Hudson, Hannah Mathems Anita D’Souza - and those who were with her during her final days - Cecilia Castellanos, Miho Watanabe, Victoria Guevara, Monica Martz and Carey Hill.
