Mr. Bruce Clifford Husband Sr.'s Obituary
Bruce Clifford Husband, Sr, 95, was called to the Lord on Friday, September 13, 2019. Bruce was born July 22, 1924 to Henry DeWeese and Zelma Pettis Husband in Somerville, Texas. His family moved to Houston when Bruce was 6 months old. After graduating from high school in 1943, Bruce was drafted into the US Army Air Corps and served during World War II in Europe in the 15th Air Force, 2nd Bomber Group, 49th Squadron as a radio operator on a B17 bomber. He completed thirtyfive sorties and returned to Florida in the spring of 1945. In May of 1945 he was stationed at Ellington Field and received his honorable discharge the following
August.
After the war, Bruce worked as a draftsman first for Reed Roller Bit Company and then for Schlumberger. Next he worked as a design draftsman/electrical engineer for Emdeco. With his love of electronics, he repaired televisions part time in his garage. In the early 1960s, Bruce started his own medical instrument company, which he called Husband Scientific Instrument Company (abbreviated as “HUSCI”). In 1975 he went to work as a biomedical engineer at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston and two years later he signed on at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena. He retired in 1988.
Bruce was a licensed and active HAM radio operator since 1942. He enjoyed
tinkering with electronics and repairing the family cars. He also had a pilot’s license and loved flying, owning 2 small planes. He played the banjo and harmonica with friends from church.
Bruce is survived by his children, Charlotte Ruth Hargrave of Pleasanton, CA; Bruce Clifford “Bubba” (Judy) Husband Jr. of Royse City, TX; Mark Steven (Kathryn) Husband of Chappell Hill, TX; Marie Therese (Daniel) Barth of Houston, TX; Joseph Martin (Vicky) Husband of Round Rock, TX; Cecelia Ann (Shannon)Lund of Houston, TX; Mary Margaret (Wiley) Alexander of Collinsville, TX; and James William (Jessica) Husband of Houston, TX; step-children Danita (Barry)Reifke of Webster, TX; Deborah (Ryan) Hartley of Phoenix, AZ; and Michael Thompson. Grandchildren, Sarah Arnold Martinez, Eric Lozes, David Lozes, Andrew Husband, Kevin Husband, Benjamin Husband, John Lund, Shannon “Sonny” Lund, Erin Husband, Abby Jewell, Tressia Felts, Nona Smith, Shelby Spencer, Hillard Corder IV, Joshua Corder, and Jana Corder. Great-grandchildren, Mia Martinez, Jacob Arnold Martinez, Ava Husband, David Martinez, Catalina Martinez, Audrey
Husband, Malakai Felts, Mikayla Smith, Marissa Smith, Ricky Spencer Jr, Peyton Corder, Whitley Corder, Reece Corder, Aden Corder, and Orey Corder. Brothers Henry Husband of Cold Spring, TX and Joe Roland (Sadie) Husband of Somerville, TX. Bruce was preceded in death by his brother Everett and his sister Frances, his first wife and mother of his children, Hazel Ruth Sellers Husband, and his second wife, Joyce Holt Husband (mother of Deborah, Danita and Michael).
Visitation will be on Friday, September 20, 2019, Family 5-6 PM, Friends 6-9 PM, at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N Main St, Pearland, TX, 77581. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 AM, with the burial immediately following, Dr. Stephen Porter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the First Baptist Church of Manvel.
