Brigido Andy Rivera's Obituary
Andy was born in Lockhart, Texas, on February 4, 1941. He grew up in Houston, graduated from Milby
High School, and attended South Texas Junior College. Throughout his life, Andy embraced his family,
extended family, and friends. He had a remarkable gift for remembering faces and names, making
everyone feel special.
After retiring from Specified Lighting, Andy remained deeply involved in his community. He was a
lifetime member of the Illuminating Engineering Society and played an active role in the
reconstruction of Memorial Golf Course, helping to shape it into what we see today. For over 25 years,
he served as the tournament director for the Milby Hispanic Alumni, a position he held with pride and
dedication.
Andy's connection to golf was strong, rooted in the passion his father and uncles had for the sport. He
became their spokesperson and, through this role, helped establish the vision for the Houston PAGA
Chapter. He played an instrumental part in laying the foundation for The National Pan American Golf
Association. What started as an association became a brotherhood, a lasting legacy that continues to
impact generations, both young and old.
Andy's leadership was never driven by titles or accolades. Instead, it was defined by his ability to lift
others up with patience, vision, accountability, commitment, and a deep love of family.
A man of great faith in his Lord and Savior, Andy always knew that a mansion awaited him. In his final
days, he experienced no pain, only happiness. He often said, "Do you realize how blessed I am?" He
wanted to express his gratitude to his family and friends for the joy they brought into his life.
Andy will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
