Mrs. Beverly June Frechette Thurmond's Obituary
Beverly June Frechette Thurmond was born on June 21, 1932 to Alfred Joseph Frechette and Delma Frechette in New London Connecticut. She passed away on February 28, 2019 at Autumn Leaves Clear Lake. She met Willie Wade “Bill” Thurmond while he was attending the Coast Guard Academy and they were married on June 7, 1952, in New London, Connecticut. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together in 2017.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, caring for her husband and raising six children, and spoiling the grandchildren. She provided a nurturing and caring home for all of us. June was an accomplished seamstress, sewing outfits for her children and for many others over the years. Later in life she knit scarfs, caps, and afghans for family and numerous charities.
June began her struggle with Alzheimer’s in 2009. The initial symptoms were subtle. Over time memory of people and places slipped away. On occasion, the kind and loving woman, she was would shine through the fog in a statement (I love you, you look nice, or a smile.) The one person that seemed to stay the longest was Bill, her face would always light up when he came into the room. After Dad’s passing and then a broken hip, the course of the disease accelerated until she was finally set free.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sister Betty Joan Filippetti (Richard) of Groton, Connecticut and six children: Michael Thurmond (Loida), Annette Marie (Gary), Beverly Thurmond (Doug), Theresa Galloway (George), Thomas Thurmond (Melanie), and Delma Schriever (Rick); 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday March 11, 2019, at South Park Funeral Home from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Rosary service at 4 p.m. The funeral Mass service will be on Tuesday March 12, 2018, at Mary Queen Catholic Church at 10 a.m., 606 Cedarwood Drive, Friendswood, TX. Friends are welcome to join the family at the graveside service at South Park Cemetery (1310 N. Main St., Pearland, TX) which will follow the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Mary Queen Catholic Church Special Friends Ministry which provides educational, recreational, social and therapeutic programs for the intellectually/physically challenged individuals in a safe and secure environment at Mary Queen Church Parish Center, 606 Cedarwood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546; or to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of June Thurmond at National Processing Center, Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
