Betty Jane Pyburn's Obituary
Betty Jane Pyburn of Manvel, Texas, aged 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2020 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston. Betty was born April 27, 1942, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of loving parents Virble and Hilda Nerren.
Betty thoroughly enjoyed being active and involved at home with family and with her business, church, and community. After graduating from San Jacinto High School in 1960 and attending Sam Houston State University, Betty worked as a stenographer supervisor for the FBI for four years. (This “connection” was used with tremendous success as a deterrent over the years to keep her children from telling any falsehoods!) As a member of First Baptist Church of Pearland, Texas, one of Betty’s greatest joys was serving as a chaperone for Youth Choir trips from 1979-1985. She experienced wonderful adventures and opportunities for ministry while crossing the map from Alaska, Louisiana, California, Tennessee, and even across the pond to Europe. She cherished serving the Lord with the FBC Pearland Youth Choir members and still considered many of them her “kids” even as adults.
In addition to rearing her two children and proudly spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Betty also managed part of the family business, M&M Hardware in Manvel, where she cultivated lifelong friendships with customers, manufacturers, and suppliers. One of her great enjoyments in life was spending time swapping stories, talking politics, and bragging on family with the regular customers. She truly embodied the heart of the hometown hardware store; a legacy her family hopes to continue.
As a faithful member of Southview Baptist Church, Betty loved her church family and volunteered in the two-year old class each week. She especially enjoyed the annual Christmas banquet and concerts each year. In the past Betty also served as President of the Texas Ground Water Association Women’s Division where she won the TGWA Woman of the Year award in 2005, has always been an active community volunteer, quietly and selflessly helping many families in need throughout the years. Betty was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Betty is survived by her sister, Joyce and husband Ivy Hoffpauir of Richmond, Texas; son, Mike (Julie) Pyburn of Alvin, Texas and daughter, Melanie (Jason) Welsh of Pearland, Texas; four grandchildren, Luke and Layne Pyburn, and Taylor and Haley Welsh; two great grandchildren, Noah Ford and Emery Williams; and numerous other relatives and close friends.
A funeral service celebrating Betty Pyburn’s life will be held on Thursday, August 13th, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Southview Baptist Church, 23003 State Hwy 288, Rosharon, Texas. Officiating the service will be Pastor Steve Brumbelow and pallbearers will be Luke Pyburn, Dwayne Hoffpauir, Kevin Hoffpauir, Mike Colletti, Shawn Calami, and Junior Alvarado. Visitation will be held at Southview Baptist Church starting at 9:30 AM with the funeral service beginning at 10:30 AM. There will be a graveside service at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas at 12:30 PM.
