Beth Ann Baker's Obituary
Our hearts are broken to announce that Beth Ann Baker passed away among family on the morning of June 8, 2026 at 90 years old, after spending her final day surrounded by loved ones.
Beth Ann was the youngest daughter of Merle and Mary Chezem, born in Houston on October 29, 1935. They moved to their permanent home in South Houston, Texas, when she was three. She gave her heart to Jesus at an early age while attending First Baptist Church, South Houston.
She was a beautiful child and woman whose spirit was even more enchanting than her appearance. She stole the heart of Billy Baker and they were married in 1953. Together, they had three children, Gary, Sharon, and Jimmy, who she and Billy devoted themselves to raising with love and faith through their home church. They were hoping to reach seventy-five years of marriage, but Our Lord called her home.
Beth Ann served faithfully for forty-three years as the Church Secretary for First Baptist through several pastors and periodically as the church Treasurer and a Sunday School teacher. She was loved and respected by everyone who encountered and worked with her at the church as she was patient, kind, and selfless.
She was also cheerful and very loving to her family – a peacemaker, though also strong willed. We could not have asked for a better mother, sister, and wife. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored her.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” – Proverbs 31:28.
Beth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Frankie Vickery and Alma Dean Barlow, and by her brother Jack Chezem.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Billy Baker; her children, Gary (and wife Kathi) Baker, Sharon Baker, and James (and wife Julie) Baker; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Countless others mourn her loss deeply as she touched every soul who knew her.
