Mrs. Bernice Victoria Koonce's Obituary
Mrs. Bernice Victoria Weaver Koonce was born in Victoria, Texas on December 30, 1915 to Victoria and Hampton Weaver and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, November 17, 2007. After graduating from Victoria High School, Bernice attended Victoria Jr. College. In 1934, she enrolled in Lilly Jolly School of Nursing where she received an R.N. degree in 1937. Bernice practiced various types of nursing in Houston, Texas for 50 years. In 1938, she married Paul Best Koonce, who preceded her in death in 2001. In retirement, Bernice taught bridge classes at her home for a small fee that she donated to her church. Bernice was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and at the time of her death, was a member of the League City United Methodist Church. Surviving family includes son, Neal Koonce and wife Sandi; daughter, Carole Lohr Edwards; grandchildren, Melinda Booth and husband Ron, David Koonce, and Richard Lohr and wife Shanna; great 'grandchildren, Davis and Ava Lohr; sisters-in-law, Virginia Weaver and Ellarose Koonce and many nieces and nephews from the Weaver and Koonce sides of the family. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 20th at 1:00 PM in the SouthPark Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William E. Jenkins officiating. Private family interment services to follow. In lieu of flowers, request name-sake memorials to the 'Foundation for the Future' fund at League City UMC, 1411 W. Main Stb, League City, TX 77573 (281-332-1557).
