Barbara Jean Wingate's Obituary
Barbara Jean Brasseaux Berridge Wingate (1934 – 2026)
Barbara Jean, surrounded by her children, was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, just shy of her 92nd birthday. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was born on July 6, 1934, in Houston, TX, the second child to Elmick and Laura Brasseaux, and lived most of her adult life in Deer Park and La Porte, TX.
Barbara became a young wife and mother who devoted her life to raising and guiding her large family, which she enjoyed watching grow. She was a woman of many talents. Some were a seamstress, a master cake decorator, and, in her later years, an amazing quilter. If you were the recipient of her talents, know it was a very heartfelt gift. She loved the Lord and was very active in her various roles within her church homes. Being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Elmick and Laura Brasseaux, and siblings, Gilbert, Alvin, Laura, and Elmick Jr. (Sonny). Her husbands, J. D. Berridge and Jerry Wingate. Her daughter, Cindy Berry, granddaughter, Breanna Berry, and son-in-law, Dennis Short.
Barbara is survived by her children, Cheri Short, Johnny Berridge, Gary Berridge (Cindy), Rose Wendt (Aaron), Terry Urban (Mick), Steve Berridge, Janice Berridge, and son-in-law Ken Berry, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many more family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her celebration of life will be held Monday, June 1, 2026, at South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 N. Main St., Pearland, TX; Viewing is at 10:00, Service at 12:00 pm, and reception to follow.
