Barbara Jean Spence's Obituary
SPENCE, Barbara Barrow,
born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 8, 1943, died in Humble, Texas, on March 21, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, George W. Spence, children, Alan (Yvette) and Ardith (John), grandchildren, Dagny, Phoebe, and Miranda, nieces Michelle and Sharon, their husbands, and a loving extended family. Barbara and George met at Rice University and began their life together beyond the hedges following her graduation with a B.A. in history in 1965. At work and at home, Barbara aimed for perfection. She was an accomplished and published historian, a paralegal par excellence at BakerBotts, and an active and contributing member of her church. A master cook, she embraced Julia Child’s view that one can never have too much butter or cream. Barbara was the center of her family. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 19330 Pinehurst Trail Drive, Humble, Texas, 77346. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christ the King Episcopal Church.
