Barbara Jane Harris' Obituary
Born in Benjamin, Texas, she was the youngest daughter of the late William Fred Jackson and the former Elizabeth Auneta McClain. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (James V. Harris Jr), one brother (Darr Jackson) and two sisters (Pernecie Ila Bohannon and Mary Clodell Duke), and son in law (Paul A. Staton).
In 1949, she met the love of her life, while taking a bus ride back to college. Shortly after, they married and remained by each other’s side until the very end. They traveled the world together and moved all over Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Eventually settling in Houston, Texas to raise their only child, Beth.
In the early 80’s she and her husband became charter members of Christ Church in Sugar Land, where they remained active for many years. She was well known for her work with the Camp Fire Girls and East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.
Survivors include her daughter (Beth Staton), two grandsons (Jason Staton and Adam Staton and wife Carrie), four great grandchildren (Nicholas Staton, Walker Staton, Abigail Staton, and Levi Staton), several nieces and nephews (Mary Sawyer, Jan Pollack, Gaye Roberts, Sue McCarthy, Dianne Bowers, Pam Walker, J.G. Bramhall, and David Harris), and sister-in-law (Monyeen Cooper).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, 2024 at 1 PM, at Christ Church Sugar Land located at 3300 Austin Pkwy in Sugar Land, Texas, for Barbara Jane Jackson Harris, 93, who passed away on February 22, 2024.
