Bang Ba Chu's Obituary
Dr. Bang Ba Chu, 92, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on April 11, 2026.
Born on October 9, 1934, in Bac Giang Province near Hanoi, his ancestral land, Dr. Chu came of age in a country marked by upheaval and rupture. He earned his medical degree from the Faculté de Médecine de Saigon (1954–1960) and served as a captain in the medic unit of the South Vietnam Army in Gia Lai Province from 1960 to 1963.
On December 12, 1963, he married Anh Nguyet Dao, who was 22 at the time. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage, building a life grounded in devotion and family. They were each other’s world.
His life was shaped by loss and beginning again. After the 1954 Geneva Accords, his family left their home in Hanoi and started over in the South. In 1975, after the fall of Saigon, he lost everything once more. He rebuilt his life in the United States with quiet determination.
He continued his training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In 1980, he opened one of the first Vietnamese-American clinics in the region, dedicating his work to immigrants and newly arrived families. He was known for his generosity, often caring for those who could not afford to pay.
He loved to travel, to tinker with cars, and to spend time with his family. He is remembered for his kindness, courage, and steady presence through hardship.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anh Nguyet Dao; his eight children and their partners; and his twenty-three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Southpark Funeral Home, 1310 North Main Street, Pearland, Texas 77581. Interment will take place on May 1 at Forest Park Funeral Home.
We were fortunate to have him. He was strong, resilient, and good. He was our light in times of darkness.
