Mrs. Audrey D. Fillip's Obituary
Audrey Marie Dupont Fillip, 82, born on March 26, 1935 near Houma, LA passed away on January 23, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Cedric and Anne Dupont; brother, Joseph Dupont; sisters, Louise Luke, Jeanne Lindsey, Rose Popich, Gloria Thibodeaux and Margaret Standard.
She is survived by five children (and spouses), Mark (Roya), Stephen, Monica (Hugo), Paul (Kerry), Thomas (Tracy); six grandchildren (and spouses), Sarah (Michael), Amanda, Nicholas, Madeline, Frank and Emily; one sister, Ann Boudreaux; along with many nieces and nephews.
Audrey grew up on Bull Run Road in Chacahoula, Terrebonne Parish, LA and graduated from Saint Francis de Sales High School in Houma, LA in 1952. She moved to Houston, TX soon after and was employed as a secretary at Humble Oil (now Exxon Mobil) in downtown Houston while living with her older sister Jeanne.
Audrey met her husband, James, attending dances with the Rosarian Club in Houston in the early 1950's. They married at St. John Catholic Church in Thibodaux, LA in November 1956. The first ten years of marriage brought them five children: Mark, Stephen, Monica, Paul and Thomas.
Audrey and Jim raised their children in the Park Place area of Houston where they were members of Saint Christopher’s Catholic Church. Audrey was a stay-at-home wife and mother whose focus was on her husband and children. Her family and caring for others was her passion in life. Not only did she have 5 children of her own but for many years she took care of other people's children and even several elderly neighbors. With a caregiver's heart, and after her own children were grown, she later studied for and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). For several years thereafter she worked in home health care assisting others.
Audrey loved to cook and bake and was very good at it. If her children were out playing in the neighborhood she would ring a bell loudly and they would come running to eat. Quite frequently other children in the neighborhood would also show up and she would feed them too. Then she would send her children out with a plate of food to a needy neighbor. Her children knew they could go to dad for easy permission, but they went to mom for cuts, scrapes, tears and a cupcake. She had a generous nature, always noticed the needs of others when no one else did, and most often did without herself in order to provide for others.
In retirement, Audrey and Jim became active members of a community group through which they made many friends. Both avid travelers, Jim and Audrey took several trips throughout the continental US and Hawaii. They also enjoyed frequent day trips with a local travel club for retirees.
Audrey had an uncanny ability to track ages and remember dates such as birthdays, anniversaries and deaths only to be faced with the cruel irony of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2012 and slowly succumbing to its various stages and death.
The celebration of her life will be held as follows:
Visitation and Rosary at South Park Funeral Home
Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M.
Funeral Mass at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church
Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10 A.M.
