Arnold Joy Gonzales Avillanoza's Obituary
In loving memory of Arnold Joy Gonzales Avillanoza, he was born on November 27,1965 and passed away on January 26, 2023. He is the eldest child, son of Amparo Reyes Gonzales of Marikina City and Jesus Datuin Avillanoza of Pura, Tarlac, Philippines.
Arnold was a “legend” of sterling gifts of faith, intelligence, patience, righteousness, compassion, forgiveness, charity, leaders and patriotism.
His tolerance and acceptance of sufferings as God’s will denoted his strong virtues of a practicing Catholic.
At 2 years old, he could read and speak in Tagalog English, Ilocano, and Pangasinense. From the age of 3 to adulthood in his whole life he exhibited and practiced love of God and country; was a multi-tasker, a huge lover and protector of animals like dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, birds and fowls, which he raised and took care of. He wouldn't even kill ants swarming into his house.
Unsurprisingly, by age 6, he had browsed his two grandfathers’ libraries of inventors, almanacs, maps, histories, World War heroes, and also their math, medical and law books. If he would get out of sight, you would find him wallowing in books.
He was very adventurous, notably inquisitive, advanced for his age, and had dismantled a whole transistorized radio, piece by piece trying to discover where the sounds come from.
From Pre-K to Grade 6 in Pura Centra Elementary School, Arnold Joy was consistently top of his class, and graduated with medals of outstanding awards in English, Math, Agriculture, First Science Quiz District Champion, Third in Regional Level; a District Pitcher in Little League Baseball and Outstanding Boy Scout Troop District Leader.
He studied at the Roosevelt Memorial High School at Marikina City; was a Jr. ROTC enthusiast. He participated actively in Science Investigatory projects; popularized Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s book “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” to fellow high school students.
For collegiate level, he enrolled at UERMMMC College of Nursing in Quezon City, Philippines; joined the “BIGKIS” organization eagerly. He was an Honorific Scholar in School Years 1982 - 1984. He was the Nursing Student Council President in Two (2) school years of 1984 - 1986. He joined with nurses, nuns and priests during the Philippines peaceful Revolution in EDSA year of February 1986.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with strong training in Cardiovascular and Intensive Care Unit. He passed the Board Exam for Nurses and Civil Service Exam and NCLEX immediately.
Before reaching the age of 21, Arnold Joy was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Philippine Heart Center of Asia before immigrating to the USA in 1988.
He was employed at Ben Taub (Trauma Center) Hospital, Harris Health System of Houston, Texas in 1988 as a First Responder Nurse for Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
He volunteered at Saint Helen Catholic Church taking care of parishioners and priests in monitoring their health and blood pressures every Sunday.
As early in the year 2000, he was an advocate of the introduction of Solar Roofing System in
Pearland homes; and was trying to invent the first electric car prototype in his garage.
He created the “Pinoy sa Houston” website, unprecedented from 1996 to 2007 uniting Pinoys in Philippine culture, myths, religion, songs and histories.
He loved praying the Holy Rosary and kept reminding America Needs Fatima Prayer Warriors of God’s Ten Commandments and offered his abode for every Monday Prayer Meetings of “Our Lady of Fatima Prayer Group” from 2010 to date.
Arnold Joy was truly very generous, thoughtful, loving, caring, and responsible to his Mother Amparo, Brother William, Mom Tommie, Sis Mary, Son Andre Jay and wife Criscel, Aunts Gloria, and Grace Lora, Sister Allen Jade, Brother-in-Law Juanito; nephews and nieces, Jerome, Kristine, John, Oz, Jr, Jeaneen, as well as cousins, aunts, uncles of Avillanoza, Gonzales, Reyes, Austrias and Ching Families.
Arnold Joy will be lovingly missed. God took him to Heaven. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus D. Avillanoza last April 24th, 2004 and his younger brother, Anthony Amiel Vezz Gonzales Avillanoza last April 21st, 2021.
