Arnelia "Nelly" Baliko's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arnelia “Nelly” Lartigue Baliko, who entered eternal rest on December 27, 2025, in Pearland, Texas, at the age of 91.
Before turning in for the night, Nelly could always be heard gently reminding her family, “Don’t forget to pray!” And when visitors prepared to leave, she never said goodbye—instead, she smiled and said, “See you later, alligator! In a while, crocodile!” These simple words captured the warmth, faith, and lighthearted love she shared so freely.
Born on September 14, 1934, in Brownsville, Texas, Nelly was the beloved daughter of Aurora and Alfredo Gonzalez, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised alongside her siblings Eunice, Edna, Nar, Alfredo Jr., and Ciro.
After graduating from Brownsville High School in 1954, Nelly married Mike Baliko Sr. (Miklos). Together they raised their children Dawn, David, and the late Michael “Mikey” with devotion and care.
For nearly twenty years, Nelly welcomed neighbors and friends at Ace Hardware, where she worked in sales. Her genuine kindness, humility, and generosity turned everyday errands into meaningful conversations and customers into lifelong friends.
In her quiet moments, Nelly found joy in singing along to Elvis, swaying to any melody that filled the room, and listening to the sermons of Billy Graham. She delighted in yellow roses, butterflies, ladybugs, the ocean, open skies, and warm sunshine. Above all, she cherished time spent laughing with family, sharing jokes, and attending church together.
A lifelong Baptist, Nelly believed that prayer and compassion were the truest expressions of faith. In her memory, the family invites all who knew her to continue going to church, pray often, and extend kindness to the homeless and those less fortunate.
Nelly’s love and legacy live on through her daughter Dawn Clark and son-in-law Raymond Clark, her son David Baliko, and her grandchildren Andrew Padilla and Raychal Clark. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband Miklos, her son Michael John, her parents, and her siblings Eunice, Nar, and Alfredo Jr.
She will be deeply missed for her gentle words, unwavering faith, and the playful farewell she never failed to offer. Until we meet again, Mom—see you later, alligator.
Don’t forget to pray.
Pray pray pray!
