Annamma Thomas' Obituary
Annamma Thomas (Leela) was born on August 23, 1947 in Kottayam, India. She was the youngest of 3 children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Abraham of the Elevanthanathu family in Kolladu. From an early age, Leela was caring and selfless. She pursued nursing at Ispath General Hospital in Orissa, where she trained from 1968 to 1971. In 1972, she began her career in New Delhi, serving at G.B. Pant Hospital. In 1973, she made the journey to the ÚSA and settled in New York. She returned to India, and on October 14, 1974, she married Thomas Kanneath (Babychen) in Kolladu. In 1976, the couple welcomed their daughter, Lini. In August 1978, they moved to Houston, Texas. In 1980, their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Leeja. Leela was a selfless and devoted mother to her daughters, whom she adored dearly. Leela carried her compassion into a remarkable nursing career that spanned 40 years until her retirement in August of 2013. She served at Ben Taub Hospital from 1978 to 1980, and from 1981 to 2013 she worked at Methodist Hospital across several units. Leela found joy in the simple beauties of life. She loved to crochet and create beautiful blankets. She delighted in her garden, growing vegetables and cultivating flowers of every color. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren, pouring herself into loving and celebrating them. Her faith was her foundation. As founding members of Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston, she gave generously of herself, even serving as Sevika Sangham treasurer in 1985 and as an active member of the Galveston & Other Area and Pearland East prayer groups. To her grandchildren she was "Machi,” a name lovingly echoed by countless other children at the church who found in her an overflowing source of love and joy. Through every season of life, her husband Babychen was always by her side, and he cared for her with the same tenderness and compassion she had shown to so many others. Leela is survived by her husband of more than 52 years, Babychen; her daughters, Lini and Leeja; her sons-in-law, Tony and Alwin; and her grandchildren, Gabriel, Ajay, and Mila. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved each of them with her whole heart. Every gathering, every celebration, and every quiet moment with her children and grandchildren was a treasure to her, and the love she gave so freely will remain with them always. A woman of unwavering faith and boundless love, Leela touched countless lives. Her family, her friends, her neighbors, her coworkers, her patients, and the many children who knew her warmth will carry her love with them always.
