Anna May Hicks March 1, 1933-June 8, 2019
Anna May Hicks, age 86 of Houston, Texas, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019. She was born to Hobson and Mary Skinner on March 1, 1933 in Houston, Texas. Mom graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1951. She was the fifth child of eight children. Mom met Dad through church, and they were married on August 10, 1951. For many years Mom was the pianist and organ player at various churches she attended. Mom and Dad lived in Houston and raised their family before they retired and moved to Pine Ridge, Arkansas. They returned to Houston in 2011.
Mom enjoyed cooking, shopping and was always eager to go on an excursion with her family. She was truly happiest when she was spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook and enjoyed preparing food and, mostly, desserts from her personal cookbook of family favorites.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Carl E. Hicks; her parents, Hobson and Mary Skinner; brothers, Howard Skinner and Melvin Skinner; sister, Mildred Rose.
She is survived by her two sons, Lloyd Hicks and wife Sally, John Hicks and wife Nancy; two daughters, Joyce Thames and husband Glynn, and Ruth Hicks; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her brothers, Floyd Skinner and wife Esther, James Skinner, Henry Skinner and wife Candy; sister, Alice Epley and husband Gary and a host of friends.
The Hicks family will be receiving friends and family on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 for a visitation starting at 5:00 PM at SouthPark Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at SouthPark Funeral Home on Thursday, June 13, 2019 starting at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
