Mrs. Amminikutty Mathew's Obituary
Amminikutty Mathew, wife of Varghese Mathew (Thankachen) was born on April 21, 1936 to Arumathadathil Mathew and Rahelamma John, in Pullad, Kerala, India. She was the 2nd of six children. She lost her mother in 1956 while studying in Nursing School, a younger brother (Georgekutty) in 1966 and her father in 1973 while he was visiting her in Gwalior. After graduating from high school in 1956, she joined the Nursing School at G. M. Hospital, Rewa (MP). In 1960, she started working as an RN in the same hospital from where she graduated. She continued her education in the College of Nursing, New Delhi and graduated in the Sister Tutor course in 1964 and became a nursing teacher in the School of Nursing, J. A. Hospitals, Gwalior (MP). In 1965 she married Varghese Mathew in Thiruvalla, India and God blessed them with three daughters (Freeda, Fraisy & Filicia). Before leaving for the United States, she was Senior Sister Tutor in charge of the School of Nursing in J. A. Hospital, Gwalior (MP). In June 1975, she relocated to Chicago and then in June 1978, to Houston, Texas where she began her career at BenTaub General Hospital up until her retirement in July 1996. At the time of her retirement, she was a Quality Management Team member of the Harris County Hospital District. Her favorite hobby was fishing and swimming. It didn't matter who was going, what time of day it was, whether she was well or ill, if you told mom, let's go fishing, she was the first one ready to go. She read every book that came into her hands until she couldn't read anymore. She attended every church service, Friday and Saturday meetings up until the time she was physically incapable of going. Even then, she always asked, 'Are we going to the meeting?' Absence in the body, but present in the Spirit! She was saved and baptized in 1964. She was the first to be saved in her immediate family and others followed later. She was the epitome of a Christian and lived that life until her last breath. She was the perfect example of a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt and a friend. When asked why she still served God when He seemed to have given up on her, she responded, 'God didn't give up on me, He gave His only Son for me and suffered more than me, so what I am going through is nothing compared to what He's done for me!' On the morning of April 4th, she entered into a deep sleep and did not respond to anyone except her husband and granddaughter, Maya. On April 5th around 12:30PM, while leaning in the arms of her oldest daughter Freeda, the earthly light of our family entered into the Eternal Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Varghese Mathew (Thankachen), her children: Freeda and Varghese George (Sunny), Fraisy and Shinu George and Filicia Mathew, grandchildren: Joshua, Mathew (Jason), Serena, Hannah, Yasmine, and Maya, her older brother: A. J. Mathew, younger brothers: Pastor A. J. Chacko and A. J. John and sister, Mary John (Kunjumol), their spouses and their children. For the last nine years, she endured difficult circumstances with her health. However, none of these difficulties deterred her from her absolute faith, love for God and unconditional surrender to the will of God. She was an active member of the Indian Pentecostal Church of God (Hebron) for the past 28 years and served the Lord with her family to the best of her ability. She is remembered as the greatest gift of God to our family. She truly fought the good fight, she finished her race, and she kept the faith until the end and now she's waiting for the glorious day to receive her crown.
