Amelia De La Rosa Chavez's Obituary
A Wife, a mother, a grandma too, this is the legacy we have for you…
Amelia “Mollie” De la Rosa Chavez, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. She was surrounded by her dear caretaker, family and husband of 54 years (one day shy of 55 whole years). Though Mollie’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain.
Mollie was born on February 15, 1943, in Houston, Texas and grew up with her grandparents, Gabriel and Julia Arcizo. She graduated in 1963 from Southwest High School. She was the second of nine girls of Patricia Guerrero. Mollie loved and helped on the family ranch, but she hated taking care of the turkeys. She often told the story of being chased by the mean turkey and preferred spending time in the watermelon garden or caring for the pigs. In 1965 she met the love of her life, Jesse of 54 years. They had 3 children, and her new interest became family trips to San Antonio, shopping and casino trips but most of all enjoyed spending time with her large family and friends.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelist Church in Houston, TX for 44 years and taught CCD for many years in the 80’s.
Mollie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend to many, but she doted on her four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and fur babies who will all greatly miss her.
Mollie was predeceased by Patsy Guerrero (mother) sisters Norma Guerrero, Judy Neubauer and grandparents Gabriel and Julia Arcizo. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Chavez, 3 children, Lisa Swad (Stephen), Jesse Christopher Chavez, Jennifer Chavez, grandchildren, Trinity Tenney (Chris), Tristan Lane (Cyria), Jordis Bass, Rocco Swad, great grandchildren, Tristan II, Cairo, Draven, Xavier, sisters; Gloria Colunga, Sarah Vargas (Juan), Mary Lou Montesantos, Patsy Khalil (Sam), Vicki Guerrero and Nora Curiel (Ramon) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Public visitation at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, TX will be on Wednesday, July 5th from 5pm to 8pm. Burial to follow at the same location on Thursday, July 6th at 10am and reception to follow at Steamboat Bill’s 1134 N Main St., Pearland, TX 77581 – Hosted by and many thanks to Carrie Jenkins.
