Mr. Allen B. Carr's Obituary
Allen B. Carr, 83, passed away on Monday August 24th, 2009 in Bay City, Texas. Allen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Carr; son Troy Allen and wife Charlotte; grandsons Allen and wife Robin, Ryan and wife Carollee; great-grandchildren Madeline, Joshua and Hyla Elizabeth; sisters Clara Craig, Maxine Witt and Wanda Pickens. His daughter Hyla Gay and sons Anthony Gene and Charles Sidney predecease him.
Allen was born April 8, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. Allen and Jean were married on New Year's Day 1948. Allen, Jean and their family moved to Houston in 1952. They lived in Houston until 1981 when he and Jean moved to Sargent, Texas.
Allen worked his entire adult life as a manufacturing jeweler. From 1966 to 1981 he was co-owner of Car-Piper Manufacturing Jewelers. From 1981 until his death he was owner of Carr Manufacturing. Allen designed and made innovative gold and platinum jewelry using diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and other precious stones. In 1989 he was awarded the American Gem Trade Association SPECTRUM award for the use of colored stones in jewelry design. In 1955 he won the Texas Jewelers Association Category 2 Jewelry Design Contest.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, August 27th, 2009 with funeral services to follow at 11 am in the chapel of SouthPark Funeral Home, 1310 N. Main St. in Pearland, TX. Interment to follow at SouthPark Cemetery.
