Mrs. Alice Merrye Shaffer's Obituary
Alice Merrye Shaffer was born on June 10, 1917 in Anahuac Texas. She went to meet her Lord peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2012. She was lovingly escorted to heaven by a host of family and friends that preceded her in death. Alice is survived by three sons: Lonnie R. Tarver and wife Judy of Spring Texas, Johnnie L. Tarver of Alvin Texas, and Lyn E. Tarver and wife Alice of Tomball Texas. She was survived by eight grandchildren: Erik Tarver of Yuba City California, Steven Tarver of Spring Texas, Kristina Collins of Willis Texas, Russell Tarver of Dallas Texas, Jana Temple of Alvin Texas, Alicia Lewis of Deltona Florida, Kela Tarver of Arlington Texas, and Robyn Irazary of Arlington Texas. She was also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. She also left behind three nieces: Deshon Knoflicek of Richmond Texas, Linda Tharp of New Waverly Texas, and Thelmarie Tharpe of Houston Texas. She left two nephews: David Isgate of League City Texas, and Richard Tarver of La Porte Texas Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Tarver of 31 years and her beloved husband William Shaffer for 27 years. She was also preceded in death by her younger sisters: Thelma and Johnnye Lou, and her parents: Johnnie and Hilda Estes. Alice made the decision to follow her Lord in 1932 and remained a devoted Christian throughout her life. In her daily study of God's Word, she read through the bible a total of 94 times. She gave faithfully to charities which included The Paralyzed Veterans of America and The Star of Hope Mission of Houston Texas. She was an ardent and expert quilter and left behind many beautiful quilts to loved ones and friends. A special thanks to the hospice caretakers who aided her in her final months. Her smiling face will be missed by many. Visitation will be form 10:00am to 1:00pm Tuesday, December 4, 2012 followed by graveside services.
