Alice Margaret Hoesl's Obituary
Alice Margaret Hoesl
April 30, 1929, to March 20, 2015
Alice Margaret Hoesl went home to the Lord on Friday, March 20, 2015, at the age of 85. She was born April 30, 1929, in Washington Township, Iowa, the second of five children of Mathew Bonefas and Teresa Wingert. The children were split-up among multiple relatives when Alice’s mother died in her early childhood.
After graduating from high school, Alice worked for the nuns at St. Frances Hospital in the administrative office. Later, she moved to Mankato, Minnesota and was employed in the office of a newspaper called the Mankato Free Press.
At some point Alice experienced a religious calling and entered the Dominican Convent in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. She lasted about 6 weeks before deciding that the life of a nun was not for her, and she returned to Mankato. After a particularly bitter stretch of below zero temperatures, Alice decided to head south to visit friends in Houston, Texas. She found an apartment and located work with the nuns at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Later she worked for Doctor Baker who was an obstetrician.
Alice met her husband, Joseph Hoesl, at church choir gatherings and they were married on September 29, 1956. She and Joe successfully raised five children who all reside in the Houston area.
Alice worked at St. Christopher’s Catholic School as the school librarian and for St. Luke the Evangelist Church for 30 years in a variety of roles including Liturgy, Art, and Environment and RCIA. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, cooking, growing African Violets and watching old movies. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who would routinely take young people under her wing to nurture them as well. Everyone loved Alice because of her funny quips, craftiness, and most of all for her benevolent soul.
Alice was preceded in death by her brothers Leo and Robert Bonefas and her sister Frances Klein. Alice leaves behind her brother Will Bonefas (wife Mary Ann), sister-in-law Margie Bonefas, husband Joseph, five children: Joan Isiminger (husband John) Mark Hoesl (wife Patricia), Grace Schamburg (husband Kurt), Paul Hoesl (wife Kim), and Kristi Koncaba (husband Kenny) and eight grandchildren; Ryan Hoesl, Alice Koncaba, Brandon Hoesl, Elizabeth Hoesl, Mariel Isiminger, Cameron Isiminger, Matt Koncaba and Kristen Marinello.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, March 23, 2015, at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church. Her presence will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in knowing that one day we will be reunited in Heaven. Alice is inurned at South Park’s Garden of Hope in the Hoesl Family Cemetery next to her lifelong soulmate: Joseph
