Aleyamma Malayil Varughese's Obituary
Aleyamma Malayil Varughese was born on January 5, 1936 as the only daughter of the late Thomas Kalapurakal and Aleykutty Thomas in Pala, Kerala, India. Since her father passed away when she was an infant, she was raised at her mother's home (Marozhukayil) in Vayala by her maternal grandparents and uncles.
Aleyamma attended St. Mary's Girls Higher Secondary School in Kuravilangadu before moving to Nagapur to complete her studies in nursing. During this time she made friendships that lasted a lifetime, including her future sisters-in-law, late Aleyamma Jacob (Ammini) and Susie Samuel (Pennamma).
Aleyamma married late K.C. Varughese, son of late Chacko Varughese and late Mariamma Chacko on June 5, 1966 and continued to work as a registered nurse until she moved to the United States in 1971. She was blessed to have friends and relatives from back home join her in the States. From 1971-1973 she worked in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Yonkers before moving to New York City. Her husband had joined her in the States in 1972 followed by her three daughters in 1979. The family moved to Texas in 1979 and and attended Trinity Mar Thoma Church. Aleyamma continued to work as a registered nurse until her early retirement in late 1990's.
Throughout her career and in life she was recognized for her exceptional skills in going beyond to help others.
