Alejandro "Alex" Gonzalez's Obituary
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, veteran, and friend, Alejandro Gonzalez III, passed away peacefully with his wife and children at his side on May 17, 2022, at the age of 76. Alex was born on August 21, 1945, to Alejandro Gonzalez II and Emma Martinez Gonzalez in Harlingen, Texas. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1965 and then joined the United States Air Force earning the rank of Sergeant and served our country for four years. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he met the love of his life, Irma Estella and started their future together.
Husband (honey) to Irma for 49 years; he was devoted to his family and humbly honored them in unique ways. Alex and Irma were never apart. He so very much loved going to breakfast with her to get their day started. It was one of his most treasured benefits of having her retire. Almost daily, he would call his brother and sisters to visit with them and find something to laugh about. One of his biggest accomplishments was being a father and grandfather. He doted over the endeavors of his eldest grandson, Jakob, and cherished getting to be a part of the milestones that his younger grandson, Isaiah and only granddaughter, Amelia were beginning to experience. Isaiah and Amelia loved their grandpa to take them outside when they visited to feed and watch the birds.
He instinctively knew when and where he was needed to light up the room with a story and a smile. Alex’s favorite pastimes were barbequing, fishing, and spending time with his family. It was not uncommon to find him playing his eclectic record collection (loudly), smoking a fine cigar with his children, good friends or brother when they were together, and sharing some version of an experience he had when he got to travel the world in the service. He had a smile that made you know how much you meant to him, the kindest heart and sharpest wit, and he truly knew no stranger.
Alex is survived by his wife, Irma, and his children, Christina and Alex. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jakob, Isaiah, Amelia and his loving siblings, Emma, Armando, Theresa, and Patsy.
Services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 beginning at 1:00 at South Park Funeral Home (1310 N. Main St., Pearland, TX 77581).
