Our beloved Mother, Bertha Romero Mendez, 91, known to her family as Mom, Grandma, Little Grandma and Grandma Mini was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday April 26, 2022 and transitioned peacefully in her sleep. She is proceeded in death by her husband Serapio R. Mendez, her son Pedro (Pete) Mendez and her infant daughter Tina Marie Mendez. She is survived by her children, John (Sylvia) Mendez, Gloria Reyna, Reynaldo (Luisa) Mendez, Josie Gonzalez, Manuel (Mary) Mendez, Carmen Mendez, Rosemary Mendez, Joe Mendez, Dino Mendez, Roy Mendez, Ernest (Jennifer) Mendez. Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, a Great, Great Granddaughter and numerous relatives in Tampico Mexico. Bertha was born in Tampico, Mexico on June 6, 1930 and was the only child born to Nicola De La Fuente Romero and Fidencio Romero. She lost her Mother when she was 8 years old. Her uncle Jose De La Fuente relocated her to McAllen, Tx where she grew up and met her husband Serapio R. Mendez. They were married on December 11, 1951 in Raymondville, Tx. They lived in South Texas until 1956 and relocated to Houston, Tx that same year. Bertha was mother to thirteen children. She loved all her children immensely and adored all of her Grandchildren. They were her energy and her sole reason for living. She enjoyed attending her Grandchildren’s events, spending time with her children, gardening and walking on the beach, but above and beyond everything else, she enjoyed being Mom and Grandma. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and all whose lives she touched. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Tuesday May 3, 2022 at South Park Funeral Home in Pearland, Tx. Visitation will follow after the memorial service until 4:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in Tampico, Mexico.
